UNI Mental Arithmetic offers an excellent skilled
program for children to develop a strong foundation
in mental development and analytical skills.
The abacus is utilized in the beginning as a
calculation tool in a structured training and
education program, and step by step with the
instructor’s guidance, the children will
fully utilize and develop their mental powers
as they do the calculations. While they develop
their ability to do the calculations utilizing
the abacus as a tool, they will be trained to
gradually develop the ability to do mental calculations
without the use of the abacus. Gradually they
develop the ability for mental arithmetic without
the use of any tools.
UNI Mental Arithmetic is a well developed program
that helps children to build a strong foundation
for mental arithmetic. It not only tremendously
increases their ability to do calculations but
the children’s mental power will be tapped
and enhanced as they progress in the program.
They
will gain:
-
Self confidence as they progress in their
school life which they carry with them throughout
their life
-
Acquire the skill to think and learn beyond
rote learning as in school
-
Problem solving skills
-
Higher level of perseverance
-
Activate right brain development
-
Increased memory power
-
Increased accuracy and speed
-
Higher level of concentration
- Increased
level of attentiveness
Children as young as five also learn to develop
their motor skills through the UNI Mental Arithmetic
program as they move the beads of the abacus
using both hands. Research has shown that using
both hands can stimulate and improve the development
of their mind from a young age. |
Mathematics is science of numbers, quantity
and space. According to Doman,
"doing
mathematics is one of the highest functions
of human brain and it is vital to civilized
human living, from childhood to old age.
It is important children learn to do mathematics
at youngest possible age because of the
effect it will have on the physical growth
of brain itself and the product of that
physical growth - what we call intelligence.
(Doman, 1991)" |
Mental
arithmetic is a way to do calculations with
mental power without using any calculating aid
such as a calculator or an abacus. In order
to be able to do mental arithmetic, a child
has to go through a course which will teach
him the techniques required. Upon acquiring
the techniques, the child will be able to calculate
with great speed and accuracy using his own
mental power. |
